Nathan & Nick, the big dealer from New York, are recovering from trip. Stuff they took was a combination of LSD, STP & some kind of energizer. The walls were melting, streets caving in, people disappearing.
Mona & I walk to Alamo Square Park around the corner. From the top of the park we can see all the way downtown in one direction & the Golden Gate Bridge to Marin in another. Great juxtaposition of San Francisco Victorians built on hills & rich brown mountains of Marin across the bay. Hippie chick making garland of daisies, then skipping over grass like she’s lost in fantasy.
We sit under a tree. I’m recovering from cheap bottle of wine, ask her if we'll ever make love.
"I've got something to tell you," she says.
I think for sure there’s another guy.
"What?" I ask.
"I can't fuck!"
"Why not?"
"I've got the clap!"
"Don't worry about it,” I tell her. “There's no rush."
"But I really dig fucking!" she says.
We go to the Haight Free Clinic to see if they can cure her. Chick sitting beside us starts talking nonstop. Floral design on her forehead, flare pants, orange tee-shirt, braless.
Tells us she's always coming to the clinic, always masturbating because she gets superhorny & then she gets messed up inside & starts thinking she has VD.
"I get this really weird trip down here," she says, pressing her stomach. "I just can't come when I fuck. I never came fucking in my whole life. I was in love for three months & I never came when he fucked me because we didn't touch much. He'd just stick it in. But I came all the time when I was around him. Just watching him play the guitar, I'd come. I can come on the
street when I see a mother with her baby or two young lovers, but I can never come in bed. God, I can't wait to fall in love again—it's so beautiful!"
She's 28. First time she had VD she was 17. Two guys beat the shit out of her for giving it to them. She had it for 9 months, her tubes closed up & now she can't have kids.
